Fabulous stay, disappointed with the food!
We want to say a huge 'Thank You' to all of the staff at the Casa Del Rio. The welcome was a brilliant start and both myself and my Mom felt indulged and relaxed from the very beginning. The view from the room was over the courtyard/fountains and it was fabulous. The rooms were beautiful, the beds were deliciously comfortable and the bathroom was stunning! The disappointment for us was the food. Day 1 the breakfast was good, cooked breakfast of eggs/omelette arrived hot and tasty. Day 2 oh no! We were waiting 20 mins, then reminded the staff we had ordered, then 2 plates of the wrong order came and sorting out our order was a hassle! Finally 2 plates of food arrived, but they were cold, greasy and disgusting! A huge disappointment. The staff seemed slightly stressed that morning and service was not of the same standard. My Mom re-ordered her breakfast, I chose from the buffet style. The issue was not major but a shame, we felt. It wasn't really acknowledged either, it would have been nice to be offered a complimentary something for the hassle. We ate High Tea at the River Café one day too and the mix of food was bizarre, a let down I felt. Finally we had 'pizza' deserts at the River café on a rainy afternoon and they were disgusting! From the menu description we were expecting something similar to a fruit sundae. What arrived was a hard, thin, very crisp pizza base, one smothered in jam and cream cheese lumps, the other with pears (which should have been fresh peaches) and supposed to be rich white chocolate sauce which was actually part melted white chocolate drops!!! Please address the menus and food being served, this was our only complaint, but an important one! On a positive note, the location was ideal, so close to Jonker Street and all the exciting little off-streets. We did the River Cruise and that was an unexpected delight. Staff we super helpful with tips of where to visit etc. We would certainly stay there again!Julie Scott

Location and luxury. We stayed 3 nights in a river view room overlooking the fountains and the river. The hotel is a 2 block walk from Jonker street, 3 blocks from the Red square and fountain and five minute walk to Pak Putra a great tandoori street restaurant. The staff and service were delightful. We never had any issues with towels or sheets they were plentyful and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel has a wonderful cinnamon soap. I ended up buying several bars in the store The room does have some steps which can be a bit dificult in the night. The spa was a delight. Both my husband and I went twice. The service and prices (for the high level of spa) were more than reasonable. We had a drink at the pool bar which has a disappearing edge pool overlooking the river and several drinks in the River bar. FYI the River bar pours a much fuller glass of wine than the pool and the house white is a decent South African. Breakfast was included in our rate and had a full range of asian, fruit, cereals, breads in a buffet along with a menu for my husbands "big breakfast" ie full English breakfast.(Comments from Tripadvisor)

We'll be back. This is our first trip to Melaka. I don't think we would have enjoyed Melaka as much as we did had we stayed in another hotel. Casa del Rio is walking distance from most of the sights which is very convenient since parking can be a challenge in the area. We were able to manage our time better because of its proximity. We stayed in a Deluxe Lago View room. We were charmed by its Mediterranean flair. In addition, the balcony had a nice view of the water fountain and Melaka river which made the ambiance more relaxing. The hotel's library is also charming and cozy. We stayed there for a few minutes after dinner for a nice read over a cup of coffee. The only thing that I did not enjoy is the Big Breakfast a la carte dish that was served to us the following day. The bread was partly burnt and the sausage had an odd smell. It's a good thing they had Nasi Goreng and Nasi Lemak in the buffet area. Both were very good.(Comments from Tripadvisor)

Lovely hotel with romantic deco. Stayed here during one of my short trip to Malacca. Beautiful hotel with lovely , romantic design. Spacious bathroom with premium amenities. I simply love the location of this hotel in busy Jonker walk area. This hotel is the prefect place if you are looking for romantic holiday in Malacca.(Comments from Tripadvisor)

The best place in Melaka. Hotel brilliantly located on the river couldn't be better placed for exploring on foot. Loved the ambience, the service and the food was tremendoud - well worth paying the extra compared to what was on offer outside. Miss Susan on reception was the connsumate professional. We had a problem with our room booking & bless her she tried her hardest to resolve it. Word of caution - we booked a silver package and paid extra for a superior river view room. The booking confirmation did not specify river view and when we got to the hotel no river views were available. We were supposedly offered an upgrade to stay in a largo view room but on returning home have discovered that the room we were "upgraded to" was of the standard we had originally paid for but without the view. Feel a bit cheated especially as I was told on complaining to take it up with whoever I had booked the room with????? Apart from the room debacle would I stay here again YES I WOULD. Lovely hotel with exceptional food and services. Quality of fixtures, fittings and amenities first class. Could be one of our all time favourites. Room Tips: Make sure booking confirmation clearly specifies what you have booked / paid for as river views are in short supply If your booking confirmation does not state that you have paid for a river view then you are at a disadvantage if you complain when you are not allocated one.(Comments from Tripadvisor)

I had arranged for the entire family to holiday in Melaka during the long break. From word of mouth and review from TripAdvisor, we decided to pick River Grill for lunch due to it being rather new, nice interior decor, great location right next to the river and a stone throw away fr Jonker street. The service was impeccable. Although the venue is usually close from 3pm onwards to pepare for dinner but they kept the private space open for us as one of my siblings was stuck in a horrible traffic from Singapore. Love the private space towards the back of the restaurant, near the Melaka river and ample amount of space to draw and play outdoor right next to the room. The chef was also kind enough to took our request to make fried Mee hoon for the kids. Their special pizza was delicious, soft and moist. The team went out of their way to meet our expectations and that sort of service is disminishing quickly these days. We would like to thank Mr Sugumaran Gopal and a bubbly Malay waitress ( my memory is failing me these day) for their excellent attention to details and exceptional service. Unfortunately we could not stay at the wonderful and stunning hotel as it was fully booked.

Taken in by pleasant surprise by simple customer service gestures

Only one suggestion for improvement. Providing hand towels in the common washroom is really nice but you need to provide a basket for the users to discard the used towels. Taken in by pleasant surprise by simple customer service gestures

A brilliant hotel with wonderful service
Other people have said a lot of good things about the great breakfast, beautifully view from the balcony, convenient location ( close to Jonker street and right at the waterfront) and large infinity pool. However, it is the service and staff that make this hotel distinctive. It is our best accommodation experience during our stay in Malaysia. We stayed there for two nights from 10 Aug to 12 Aug. After a long drive from the Cameron Highlands, we checked in the hotel in the evening. Being hot and tired, we were welcomed with a cool towel and a lime ginger sorbet. Of course, the traditional Malaysian dessert in the room was a delight. The staff members are attentive and meticulous. The staff member called Naguid ( sorry , if I got the wrong spelling) discovered that there was a hole in one of the tyres of our car when he parked the car for us. He left us a note about that. It would have been a disaster if we found it out ourselves on the Highway. He and his colleagues helped us to get a spare tyre and drove us to a nearby garage to get the tyre fixed. They even cleaned our car the next day before we left. We were lucky to have stayed at hotel with such high quality service and people. I would like to extend our big thank you to the hotel and the staff members. The accommodation experience at this hotel has made our holiday in Maleka a pleasant and unique one.Diana Mak

Thank you and Keep Up the great Service!
We stayed at Casa Del Rio from 1 Jun to 14 Jun with our 3 young kids and we would like to thank you for making our stay an enjoyable one. As my husband's birthday and our wedding anniversary is in August, I would like to surprise him with a treat in the form of a stay at Casa Del Rio just for us without the kids. Would appreciate it if you could kindly revert with any possibility for me request for some special touches if we were to book as stay from 9 Aug to 11 Aug 2012. Thanks much. Margaret Lee

Praise for reservations desk staff Suraya
I would like to express my appreciation to the reservation desk staff member, Suraya, who was on duty on 13 Feb 2012 at 2 p.m. I had made a mistake with my booking dates and wanted to amend the date of arrival. However, the external agent I had booked the hotel with wanted to levy an extra nights' stay charge on me. However when I explained my situation to Suraya, she not only assured me that the hotel would be able to accommodate my request since it was low season, she also contacted the agent and made all the necessary changes for me at no extra charge. This is truly the sort of customer service standard worthy of a 5 star hotel, and I was very pleased with the helpfulness, courtesy and pleasant demeanour of the staff member. I look forward to my stay with the hotel, if this is the type of service standard I can expect when I get there! Thank you Suraya and regards!Tricia Seow

Everything was so perfect, the room, the service, the pool, the staff is so friendly and helpful. The thing that Casa Del Rio should improve is the food from room service. We ordered room service for lunch that is Casa Del Rio Club Sandwich and Chinese Fried Rice. It was delicious and the food presentation was awesome. But when we order it again for late dinner, it tasted so bad.. especially the chinese fried rice and the food presentation was so different. Other than that your hotel and service was awesome. We would just like to say how much we enjoyed our overnight stay. We found the welcoming and helpful attitude of the staff quite exceptional and it was reflected in every department. Our room was very well designed and comfortable and the attention to detail in the bathroom and the products used were very pleasing. We look forward to visiting again in the future.Judy Campbell

Beautiful. Being new to KL, we thought we would go to Melaka for weekend. I found Casa del Rio on the web, and liked what I saw.

The hotel didn't disappoint. In brief, the rooms are fitted more in the Langham style and therefore are more classic than modern. As it is a new hotel, I can see that some minor details will change overtime (the remote control book box...).

The location is great, the reflecting and horizon pools are a great aspect. Staff are pleasant. We had dinner in the restaurant which was very nice (as a luxury hotel expect the bill to reflect this), we all enjoyed the meal - so compliments to the chef. No problems with the rooms, beds were luxurious and bathrooms nice. If they keep the maintenance and cleanliness standards high (not a problem in our stay) it is a hotel to return to again and again. Stayed July 2011, traveled with family.
